80% of Voters Are Ignored by Presidential Campaign

Almost all of 2024 presidential campaign has been focused on 7 closely divided battleground states.

The map shows the locations of the 229 general-election campaign visits by the major-party presidential and vice-presidential candidates, as of Friday November 1.

Seven states received 215 of these 229 visits (94%). These 7 states have less than 20% of the U.S. population.

That is, 80% of Americans are mere spectators to the 2024 presidential election.

VOTERS IN ALL 50 STATES SHOULD MATTER

Because of current winner-take-all laws for awarding electoral votes, presidential candidates only pay attention to voters in closely divided battleground states.

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact will guarantee the Presidency to the candidate who receives the most popular votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact will take effect when enacted by states with a majority of the electoral votes (270 of 538). At that time, the presidential candidate receiving the most popular votes in all 50 states and DC will get all the electoral votes from all of the enacting states. That is, the candidate receiving the most popular votes nationwide will be guaranteed enough electoral votes to become President.
