Friends,
Just this week my extremist opponent for Maricopa County Sheriff, Jerry Sheridan, posted a video with Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb, who endorsed Sheridan and is considered to be a member of the constitutional sheriffs movement. Sheridan has been exposed as a member of the same group and has said he will defy federal laws if elected.
According to The New York Times, Lamb has often been associated with the constitutional sheriff movement, a group that believes the authority of a sheriff can pre-empt any other legal body and that sheriffs can choose not to enforce laws they consider to be unconstitutional.
The Anti-Defamation League has classified the group as an anti-government extremist group whose primary purpose is to recruit sheriffs into the anti-government “patriot” movement. The group’s founder also founded the Oath Keepers, which was involved in storming the U.S. Capitol on January 6th.
Joe Dana of 12 News recently reported: “The Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association believes the sheriff is the ultimate authority in a county even above federal law […] during one debate Sheridan echoed the Constitutional Sheriffs credo acknowledging as a sheriff’s chief deputy he defied a federal judge and would be willing to do it again.”
Look: the constitutional sheriff movement believes they have absolute power. Jerry Sheridan has a pattern of picking and choosing what laws to follow. That's dangerous and it's not the kind of leadership our county needs.
Sincerely,
— Tyler Kamp
Candidate for Sheriff
