Dear AFSCME Family,
The work you are doing is literally saving the country. No exaggeration — from corrections officers and sanitation workers to nurses and EMS professionals and so many more, you are giving people reason to be hopeful.
That is why the outpouring of support has been amazing. Thanks have been coming in from all over the country — not only from community members to their front-line workers but also from front-line workers to each other.
But ‘thank yous’ won’t heal those who have been afflicted or reopen the economy. You’ve been working without proper equipment, without safe staffing levels and without proper support from the federal government. This is unacceptable — we need substantial state and local aid, so we can stay on the job protecting our communities.
Being on the front lines, you know exactly what it’s going to take. And the longer it takes for Congress to fund the front lines, the more dire our situation will become.
Together we must urge Congress do its part and pass state and local aid. On behalf of your union and community, thank you again!
In Solidarity,
Amy Hendrick
