John: More than 700,000 North Carolinians had their voter registration “purged” before Election Day. The State Elections Board made the announcement of compliance with state law.
This means that North Carolina -- emerging as a crucial state in this year's election -- completed their removal of roughly 10% of their 7.7 million registered voters a little more than a month before the election.
These state by state purges, driven by lies and disinformation, often disenfranchise legitimate registered voters who haven’t moved or had other changes to their status as voters. We've seen it reported in other states, like Georgia, and we're sure it's the case in North Carolina this year too.
What can we do about it with just weeks to go and voting already starting? To start, you can ask your friends and family in North Carolina to check their registration status, make sure they are still on the rolls, and make a plan for voting. And we also need your help to stop these purges from happening again.
John, help us push back on these cynical purges in states like North Carolina, Gerogia, and beyond with $25 or whatever you can today to protect the right to vote nationwide >>
