In 2022, Tricia Cotham ran for state legislature as a Democrat in a Democratic district, campaigning on her strong support for reproductive rights.

She pledged to her supporters then that she would protect abortion access. She lied.

In April 2023, Rep. Tricia Cotham left the Democratic Party to give the Republicans a one-vote supermajority that allowed them to pass a cruel abortion ban, overturning my veto and the will of most North Carolinians in a cheap political stunt that has endangered the health of the very people she is supposed to serve.

During their redistricting process, Republicans rewarded Cotham by redrawing her district lines so that the electorate is less Democratic — presumably in an effort to help her keep her seat after betraying her constituents. We can’t let them get away with it.

I am personally committed to helping Nicole Sidman defeat Tricia Cotham.
