“Abortion Could Decide Control of State Supreme Courts”

– The New York Times, Oct 15th

Chip in to power our efforts to win pro-democracy majorities in state supreme courts and state legislatures nationwide >>

Hey there,

In a post-Roe world, state supreme courts are the next critical battleground in the fight for abortion rights — and this recent report from The New York Times shows how this issue could determine the outcomes of state supreme court races nationwide.

The NDRC is working to elect fair-minded, pro-democracy majorities in key state supreme courts, from Texas to Michigan to North Carolina. Abortion rights, voting rights, and other key issues are creating a surge of interest and momentum in these key state-level races — and right now you can send immediate support to power the final push to Election Day and our long-term fight for fair maps.

If you can, chip in to fund our efforts to win crucial state supreme court seats, support Democracy Defenders across the country, and restore fairness to our broken electoral system.

Along with the Times, Politico also spotlighted the importance of state supreme court races with a recent article titled, “The big state Supreme Court races that could shape states for years.”

The article featured races that we are actively involved in here at the NDRC: Michigan, Montana, Ohio, and North Carolina. In Montana, Politico reports that Planned Parenthood has warned that two right-wing candidates would ban abortion if elected. In North Carolina, a Democratic incumbent is facing a Republican challenger who said protecting gerrymandered maps is a reason why he is running. And in Ohio, there’s an opportunity to flip control of the state supreme court — currently a 4-3 advantage for Republicans — for the first time in decades!

So, state supreme court races are finally getting some national attention, but this kind of coverage is rare. These races — as consequential as they are — are often lost in the media conversation, so it’s up to us to make sure voters know they are getting the attention and the financial support they need.

Make your contribution right now to help power our efforts to mobilize support for fair-minded candidates, pro-democracy state supreme courts, and fair maps nationwide.

Thanks as always for everything you do,

—The NDRC Team
