Hi John.
I understand the cost of prescription drugs and premiums are too high for Kansas families.
That’s why I stood up to Big Pharma and helped cap insulin prices at $35 a month for seniors. The law I voted for also finally lets Medicare negotiate for lower prescription drug prices.
There’s certainly more work that needs to be done. That’s why I’m also supporting legislation to cap insulin prices at $35 a month for everyone, not just seniors. But this represents real, tangible progress that makes a difference in people's lives.
As I keep pushing for concrete and bipartisan solutions to lower prices, I’ve directed my office to share resources to help make your life more affordable. Click here to visit davids.house.gov/lowercosts to find resources to lower your prescription drug prices, premiums, and much more.
Here are some specific resources that may help lower your health care costs:
• Find More Affordable Health Insurance: Yesterday marked the beginning of open enrollment on the health insurance marketplace at healthcare.gov. This is your opportunity to find health insurance or shop for a more affordable plan. Coverage may be more affordable than you think – I voted for a law that’s cutting taxes for people who buy their own insurance on the exchange. It’s saving 44,000 residents in Kansas’ Third District an average of $780 a year on premiums.
• Find Local Help: You may also be able to get in-person, local assistance with navigating the health insurance marketplace.
• Medicare Open Enrollment: Separately, Medicare is concurrently holding its own open enrollment period through December 7th. This is when seniors can change their Medicare plans if they want to, or sign up for coverage for next year. Seniors may see greater savings this year under the new prescription drug law that I voted for (click here to learn more).
• Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansans (SCHICK): If you’re a senior who is thinking about changing your Medicare plan during open enrollment, you may also be able to get free in-person help through SCHICK. Seniors can talk with trained volunteers to get answers to their questions.
• Help with Surprise Medical Bills: I helped pass a new bipartisan law to ban surprise medical billing, which is now in effect. I’m pleased to share the law has already blocked more than 9 million surprise bills. You can get help with your medical billing situation or file a complaint by calling the No Surprises Help Desk at 1-800-985-3059.
It’s an honor to serve you and your family in the U.S. House of Representatives. If you have any questions or would like to share your views, please feel free to contact me.
My warmest regards,
Sharice L. Davids Member of Congress
