We learned yesterday of the passing of Aimee Stephens, whose groundbreaking case at the Supreme Court will determine whether transgender workers are protected from discrimination based on their gender identity. Below, we provide more about what's at stake in Aimee's case and the two other Title VII cases pending before the Court. TITLE VII
The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to announce its decisions in the coming weeks on three cases that address whether Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits workplace discrimination on the bases of sexual orientation and gender identity. There are an estimated 7.1 million lesbian, gay and bisexual workers and 1 million transgender workers in the U.S., and half of them live in states without express statutory protections against employment discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

LGBT people disproportionately experience homelessness
An estimated 17% of cisgender LGB adults in the U.S. report having experienced homelessness at some point in their lives, compared to 6% of the general population. In addition, a significantly higher proportion of transgender people reported homelessness in the past year compared to cisgender LGB and straight people.

One in four LGBT people in Colombia have attempted suicide
The Williams Institute has conducted the largest and most comprehensive study of LGBT people in Colombia. The majority (72%) of respondents reported at least moderate psychological distress. In addition, 55% percent reported having suicidal thoughts during their lifetime, and one in four (25%) had attempted suicide at least once.
