Hi,

Since the extreme Supreme Court ruling giving Trump and other American
presidents “absolute immunity,” Trump got his classified documents case
dismissed. Now, he’s invoking Clarence Thomas’s concurring opinion in the
case to try to get out of the 2020 election interference charges against
him.^1

Trump’s efforts to escape accountability rely on Clarence Thomas and other
far-right justices involved in corruption scandals. Both Thomas and Samuel
Alito have connections to the “Stop the Steal” movement.

To make sure Trump is held accountable, Democrats put forward legislation
called the No Kings Act to invalidate the “absolute immunity” ruling. The
bill would assert that, despite the right-wing majority opinion on SCOTUS,
presidents do NOT have immunity for criminal actions.^2

Just a few weeks ago, newly disclosed evidence revealed Trump’s statements
in the aftermath of the 2020 election, like, “It doesn’t matter if you won
or lost the election. You still have to fight like hell.”^3

Clarence Thomas’s wife, Ginni Thomas, was personally involved in the
effort to overturn the results of the 2020 election and attended the
January 6 "Stop the Steal" rally at the White House.^4 Now, Trump hopes
Thomas’s SCOTUS concurrence will help him get his January 6 charges thrown
out.

Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said recently, “The Founders were explicit –
no man in America shall be a king. Yet, in their disastrous decision, the
Supreme Court threw out centuries of precedent and anointed Trump and
subsequent presidents as kings above the law.”^5 And that’s exactly why
Leader Schumer introduced the No Kings Act — to override this dangerous
SCOTUS ruling and protect American democracy.
