North Korean Troops in Russia Bring Global Contest Closer

Last week, the US confirmed that North Korea is dispatching over 10,000 soldiers to fight for Russia in Ukraine. North Korea expert Nicholas Eberstadt analyzes this ominous development as a reflection of the coordinated challenge China, Iran, North Korea, and Russia pose to the free world.

 

 

Any future conflict over Taiwan will be significantly shaped by the dramatic changes in the nature of warfare on display in Ukraine. Critical Threats Project Director Frederick W. A Reform Framework for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides over $100 billion in food benefits to low-income households each year, but this assistance has failed to reverse downward trends in health and well-being. In a new report, Angela Rachidi and Leslie Ford detail a framework for reform to refocus the program on its congressional mandate to reduce food insecurity and improve nutrition. Informed by consultations with numerous policy experts, Rachidi and Ford offer specific policy changes to improve the effectiveness of SNAP’s administration, reestablish appropriate eligibility and benefit structures, support employment and upward mobility, improve nutrition, and address program-integrity issues.
