Email from Rep. Dan Newhouse This week, I led the final meeting of my Central Washington Fentanyl Task Force and released our final report outlining guidance to help mitigate the ongoing crisis. Releasing the Central Washington Fentanyl Task Force Report This week, I led the final meeting of my Central Washington Fentanyl Task Force and released our final report outlining guidance to help mitigate the ongoing crisis. From individuals who have firsthand experience in substance recovery, law enforcement officers, tribal representatives, and medical professionals, this task force represents all of us who have been impacted by this issue one way or another, and I am happy with the work we have accomplished. In each meeting, the task force compiled data to assess current trends of the fentanyl crisis, mapped out funding mechanisms and resources available, discussed current laws and available programs, and contributed to the all-hands-on-deck education campaign in Central Washington to combat this crisis. I am proud of the report, which outlines our comprehensive work over the last year and a half to stop the influence of the fentanyl crisis in our community, and remain committed to continuing this important work in Congress. Read Our Final Report on My Website Discussing Rural Education at the Mt. Adams School District On Monday, I visited the Mt. Adams School District, where I had a conversation with Superintendent Dr. Curtis Guaglianone and Larry Garcia, a member of the school board. They shared their plans for improving the campus, and we discussed challenges facing the White Swan Community. Thank you for having me! Advocating for Water Development Projects at the Columbia Basin Development League On Tuesday, I delivered the keynote address at the Columbia Basin Development League's 60th Annual Meeting. At the meeting, we discussed the canals, municipal and industrial water, the Odessa Groundwater Replacement Program, and available resources at the state and federal level. The League's advocacy has led to water access for over 700,000 acres of Central Washington, and I look forward to working with them to finish the project. Updates from Local Officials On Thursday, I met with numerous representatives from the Benton-Franklin Council of Governments to discuss ongoing projects in our region. I spoke with Mayor Richardson as well as city management staff about development of the Clean Energy industrial park. We also discussed the ongoing energy demands for new growth coming to the Tri-Cities. I also met with staff from the Port of Pasco, who spoke with me about the future Ag Innovation Center. This project would contain labs, space for innovation, and places to meet for farmworkers, commodity groups, educational institutions, and more. Later, I met with public works staff and city management for the City of Pasco. Together, we discussed remaining rail work for the Lewis Street Overpass, future transportation projects to help alleviate traffic on Road 68, and lowering the levee in Wade Park. My final meeting was with staff from the Kennewick Public Facilities District. We spoke about the ongoing expansion project for the Three Rivers Convention Center, as well as the beneficial economic impacts this will have on our communities. Visiting La Casa Hogar Today, I visited La Casa Hogar—a non-profit in Yakima that specializes in adult education, early learning, and citizenship services for Spanish-speaking families. The dedication and passion of their staff is truly inspiring, and the positive impact they make on our community is clear. La Casa Hogar is a great example of what can be achieved when we invest in education. Meeting with Horizon Distribution Today, I toured Horizon Distribution in Yakima. As one of the largest hardware, farm, and industrial supply distributors in the Pacific Northwest, they provide our growers with the tools they need to be successful. It is always encouraging to see businesses like Horizon, who started out as the Yakima Hardware Store in 1881, grow and continue to serve our area.
