John,
With just days left until the election, you might have noticed the influx of mailers about our campaign.
Many of these are coming from a group called the United Democracy Project (UDP). But who is UDP, and why are they so invested in CA-34?
The short answer is that they are the electoral Super PAC for AIPAC. The long answer requires a story:
A member of our team recently spoke with a local voter who was a staunch Jimmy Gomez supporter.
He mentioned he’d received dozens of UDP mailers promoting Jimmy’s campaign (and even some denigrating me).
Curious, our team member asked him to look at the fine print on the back of one of those mailers and Google “United Democracy Project” from his phone right then.
He did, and he was shocked.
The voter had assumed UDP was just another local organization, but it turns out UDP is a project of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
This voter wasn’t completely clear on AIPAC, either. But he HAD heard that AIPAC was the group heavily influencing members of Congress to keep arming Israel no matter what. And he did not like that.
If you’re ready to stand up against the influence of AIPAC and other powerful special interests, contribute to our campaign today. Every dollar helps us keep corporate influence out of CA-34 and elect a representative accountable only to you, the people of our district.
AIPAC’s goal this cycle is clear: to whitewash cash from MAGA billionaires through organizations purporting to defend “democracy” with the singular purpose of promoting the far-right agenda of the Israeli government.
By funneling millions into races like ours, AIPAC ensures that our leaders will turn a blind eye to Israel’s atrocities in Gaza and beyond, maintaining a deadly status quo.
Since their agenda is so callous and out of touch with the majority of voters, AIPAC hides behind Super PACs like UDP, hoping people won’t look too closely at where all this money is coming from.
Jointly, UDP and AIPAC have poured over $1.5 million into Jimmy’s campaign – an astronomical amount for a single race.
This isn’t just an endorsement; it’s an attempt to control our district's voice.
They’re hoping their money will drown out our grassroots message, convincing voters that corporate-backed candidates are the only viable choice.
It’s important to ask why AIPAC is investing so heavily in keeping Jimmy in office. What do they expect to get in return? Well, they are his biggest donor, and in return for their support, he’s sent billions and billions of dollars to arm the far-right Israeli government, sending the dollars of taxpayers to fund a genocide abroad instead of going towards desperately needed help in our community.
The good news is that we have powerful allies who know this district deserves better.
Jewish Voice for Peace Action (JVP) recently endorsed our campaign, recognizing that we are the only candidate committed to justice and human rights, both at home and abroad.
Their endorsement is a testament to our commitment to peace and equality—and to a foreign policy that uplifts rather than divides. JVP’s support fuels our fight to build a Congress that champions all communities.
The truth is our campaign has been here before.
Last cycle Jimmy and his special interests flooded the district with spending - outpacing us by a 7 to 1 margin and we still came within a few votes of defeating him.
That’s the power of a grassroots movement, and this time, we’re going to finish what we started.
Will you stand with us to expose the truth and keep UDP’s and AIPAC’s agenda out of CA-34? Together, we can create a district that stands for integrity, compassion, and accountability.
Thank you for being part of this fight.
It’s time for us,
David Kim
PS: We are down to the final 4 days of this campaign and we are SO CLOSE to our final fundraising goal that will keep my team on the ground, talking to every single voter before election day. Can you pitch in one more time to help us close the gap?
