Breaking news, John:
Justice Democrats incumbents Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Cori Bush, Ilhan Omar, and Summer Lee are putting pressure on President Biden to explain why his administration deployed U.S. troops to Israel without congressional authorization.
Our progressive champions for peace are leading the way on this issue once again by holding this administration accountable for ignoring the law and continuing to enable right-wing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s genocide against Palestinians.
Despite the War Powers Resolution of 1973 requiring Congressional approval to send troops to war, President Biden has provided Israel with U.S. soldiers on the ground, as well as billions of dollars worth of weapons and bombs used to carry out war crimes, all while Israel has largely blocked food and other humanitarian aid from reaching Palestinians in need — which violates federal and international law.
In their letter to the President, Rashida, Cori, Ilhan, and Summer made it clear that he “cannot continue to ignore the law without Congressional intervention,” and warned that a member of Congress can introduce a resolution and force a vote to remove U.S. forces from Israel.
From introducing the ceasefire resolution last year to sending this letter to President Biden, Justice Democrats members are giving it all they’ve got to end the genocide, bring home the hostages, and promote peace instead of violent escalation in the Middle East.
In solidarity,
Justice Democrats
