Voting our values and fighting for our future
A message from CFT President Jeff Freitas
Dear John,
There is no denying that the final stretch of the election has reached a fever pitch. Donald Trump and his allies have been putting on a full display of racism, xenophobia, bigotry, and hate. It’s easy to become overwhelmed by all of the negativity, and to fret with the never-ending noise coming at us.
But if you tune out the noise, and look beyond the headlines, you’ll see hundreds of thousands of people across the country fighting for the future of our country. That includes CFT members from every corner of the state volunteering for hundreds of shifts to reach out to voters for Harris/Walz in critical swing states, to talk to union voters in swing Congressional districts here in California, and to talk to their neighbors about the local candidates who support our public schools.
What I’ve personally experienced at the doors and on the phones is that voters share our values and share our urgency to fight for working families and for our schools. And I’ve heard so many similar stories from those who have been out there with me.
So thank all of you who continue to do this critical work. You’ve inspired me and given me hope that we can win next Tuesday and that together we will continue to fight the good fight.
I’ll be out there, with so many members, from now until Nov. 5, to get out the vote. So, this is my last plea to you to get out there and vote. And better yet, get out there and volunteer in these last few days.
See you out there!
Jeff Freitas
CFT President
November election is an opportunity to vote our values
This election we once again have the opportunity to vote for candidates who support our public schools and who will be there for working families. While the focus is understandably on the White House, there are many more state and local races that are also critical for the future of public education, and the well-being of our communities. Make sure to vote on or before November 5. And before you do, take a look at the CFT Educators Choice Voter Guide.
Spotlight on Proposition 5 - Empowering local voters to address affordable housing
Prop. 5 empowers local voters to approve bonds for affordable housing, critical public infrastructure, and emergency response in our communities with a 55% vote – if those bonds have strict accountability and oversight.
California has a massive shortage of housing that is affordable for low- and middle-income residents. Prop. 5 would help address the ongoing shortage by empowering local communities to decide whether a housing bond is right for them. It also helps communities address critical infrastructure needs like roads, bridges, and water systems, as well as emergency and fire response needs.
