From leading youth programs in Chicago Public Schools to organizing parents and communities to win the reopening of closed schools to building a national network of community organizations fighting for stronger public schools, Jitu Brown has been an instrumental leader on the frontlines of the movement for equity in public education for over 30 years.
In 2015, Jitu was one of the community members who went on a historic 34-day hunger strike and won the re-opening of Dyett High School after Rahm Emanuel’s massive school closures. Now, for the first time ever, Chicago will elect its Board of Education to oversee a school district that supports more than 320,000 mostly Black and Brown students with a nearly $10 billion annual budget.
Join me in supporting Jitu Brown for Chicago School Board to push forward a model for equity in public education! [link removed]
