A Message from Gabe:

Greetings Rhode Islanders,

This week, I am reflecting on a core principle of our democracy — the power of our vote. Voting isn't just about checking a box. It's about using our voice to shape the future of our communities in Rhode Island and across the country. Voting is an important job as citizens, it’s our civic duty.

I know there are those who believe their vote will not make a difference. History shows us otherwise. Voting determines our leaders, who determine how we support our veterans, protect our seniors, and safeguard our environment. Voting can affect how much funding the federal government provides to support our schools, uplift our small businesses, and fix our roads and bridges. When you exercise your right to vote, you're making your voice heard and doing your part to ensure your government reflects your values.

In Washington, I am working to protect our right to vote and ensure it's easy and accessible. That includes pushing for policies that expand voting access, protect election workers, and reduce barriers to participate in our democracy. We must restore the power of the Voting Rights Act before extremists on the Supreme Court unleashed a wave of voter suppression efforts. Our communities are stronger and more resilient when every person’s voice is heard and can trust in this sacred process.

As we approach Election Day, I hope everyone has made a plan to vote. Whether you vote by mail, vote early, or head to the polls on Election Day, having a plan makes the process easier. And if you're unsure about how or where to vote, please contact the Rhode Island Board of Elections.

Thanks for being engaged and for making your voice heard. It's an honor to serve you in Congress.

Sincerely,

Gabe Amo
Member of Congress

This week, our Rhode Island delegation announced additional federal funding is available to help nonprofits and places of worship improve security amid rising hate crimes.

The Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) offers resources for protection, such as security systems and safety training. Rhode Island will receive over $2.2 Million in NSGP funds to protect nonprofit organizations and ensure that every Rhode Islander can freely and safely practice their faith.

Hate has no home in Rhode Island. With antisemitic, Islamophobic, and hate-fueled incidents on the rise, we have an obligation to ensure every community feels safe and secure in their places of worship.

In 2024, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provided more benefits and more care to Veterans than ever before.

The VA reduced wait times, increased support for Veterans in crisis and Veterans experiencing homelessness, and expanded care access for women Veterans and toxic exposed Veterans.

I remain focused on ensuring veterans get the benefits they’ve earned. Please click here or call my Pawtucket office at (401) 729-5600 if you need help accessing your Veterans benefits.

This funding will improve the operational efficiency of Rhode Island’s freight rail, reducing delays and slashing travel times.

Thanks to this federal investment, our rail systems will be safer and more efficient for the businesses and shippers who need strong supply chains for goods to be transported.

Amo Celebrates Securing Release of $24 million in Federal Energy Bill Assistance for
Rhode Islanders

Image

This week, I joined my House colleagues in urging the Department of Health and Human Services to release the highest amount of funding possible for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). This vital program helps about 26,000 households in Rhode Island afford heating during the winter months. As temperatures drop, it's crucial that we ensure our seniors and working families don't face a lapse in energy bill assistance. After I sent the letter, Rhode Island was awarded $24,063,792 in funding for LIHEAP.ImageRhode Islanders can learn more about LIHEAP assistance at the Rhode Island Department of Human Services website, by contacting their local Community Action Program Agency, or the National Energy Assistance Referral (NEAR) hotline toll-free at: 1-866-674-6327. Households can also easily identify possible eligibility for assistance by using the LIHEAP Eligibility Tool on energyhelp.us.
