John,
Yesterday, Mike shared his endorsement of Kamala Harris for president, writing in the hopes that "others who have a history of supporting candidates in both parties — as I do — will join me."
While he may not agree with Harris on every issue, Mike's decision was guided by two key considerations: policy positions and personal integrity.
On policy, "the contrast could not be clearer." Kamala Harris has staked out pragmatic positions on the issues that matter to people's lives: reproductive rights, the economy, immigration, climate change, gun safety, public health, crime, and more.
Trump's agenda, meanwhile, ignores the threat of climate change, includes economically damaging tariffs and deportation plans, and would hand over our nation's public health to an anti-vaxxer. Trump has also bowed down to the gun lobby, and stands with January 6 rioters over law enforcement.
Regarding personal integrity, Mike shares the views of Trump's former Vice President Mike Pence and many other Republicans: "Trump is not fit for high office."
That is clear in everything from his chaotic first term record to his echoing of Nazi sentiments in his current campaign. Trump's election denial and efforts to overturn the will of the people show, Mike writes, that "for him, nothing — not America, not our Constitution, not democracy, not the rule of law, not the lives of police officers or any other citizen — matters more than his own vanity and glory."
