MEDIA ADVISORY AND PUBLIC NOTICE

Congressman Al Green and Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick Introduce the Annual Bipartisan Original National Domestic Violence Awareness Month Resolution of 2024

(Houston, TX)—On Friday, November 1, 2024, Congressman Al Green proudly introduced the annual bipartisan initiative, the "Original National Domestic Violence Awareness Month Resolution of 2024," co-led by Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-1). This significant bipartisan resolution brings attention to the urgent issue of domestic violence and its devastating impact on individuals, families, and communities across the nation. A copy of the resolution can be accessed by clicking here.

The resolution highlights alarming statistics that illustrate the widespread nature of intimate partner violence, which affects people of all backgrounds, regardless of age, race, gender, economic status, or religion. The forms of abuse—ranging from emotional and physical harm to financial exploitation and digital violence—demand immediate action and awareness.

"My colleagues and I remain resolute in our commitment to addressing domestic violence, which is why we are leading the charge to designate October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This initiative serves not only to raise awareness but to convey a vital message to victims and survivors: you are not alone. We must continue to raise awareness, ensure victims and survivors receive the support they deserve, and work tirelessly to drive meaningful change toward a future free of violence." Said Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick.

Congressman Al Green stated, “By designating October as "National Domestic Violence Awareness Month," this resolution not only promotes increased funding for vital prevention and intervention programs but also emphasizes the need to recognize and support survivors while advocating for meaningful change. We must stand united in our commitment to eradicating domestic violence and uplift the courageous individuals who have faced its devastating effects.”
