Dear Neighbor,
This week’s newsletter brings you updates on key investments for our district—everything from new clean-energy transit options to strengthened protections for our environment, health care open enrollment, and more accountability in air travel.
$54.9 Million for Zero-Emission Ferries, Boosting Clean Transit in Central NJ
I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve secured $54.9 million to bring zero-emission, high-speed ferries to Highlands and Central New Jersey. This funding, made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act, will introduce advanced ferries and charging stations to cut air pollution and ease traffic on the New Jersey–Manhattan route. It’s not just about cleaner air—this investment also creates local jobs and green tech training programs. I fought for these funds to make sure New Jersey leads in sustainable transit, and alongside similar investments at the Port Authority, we’re setting up a cleaner, healthier future for our communities.
Open Enrollment is Here – Get Covered, New Jersey!
Starting today, November 1, New Jersey residents can enroll in or renew health coverage through Get Covered New Jersey, our state’s official health insurance marketplace. This annual open enrollment period runs through January 15, 2025, and it’s the only time you can sign up for coverage or make changes to your health plan unless you experience a qualifying life event. If you enroll by December 15, your coverage will begin January 1, 2025.
Get Covered New Jersey is the only place where you can access financial assistance to help lower your monthly premiums and out-of-pocket expenses. Many New Jerseyans may also qualify for free or low-cost health insurance through NJ FamilyCare. Take the time to explore your options and choose a plan that works for you and your family. Visit GetCovered.NJ.gov or call for support to get the coverage you need.
Automatic Airline Refunds for Delays and Cancellations Now Guaranteed
Starting this week, the Biden-Harris Transportation Department’s new rule requires airlines to automatically refund passengers facing significant flight disruptions, which means fewer hassles and no more haggling for compensation. Passengers will get refunds for domestic flights delayed by three hours or more (six hours for international), as well as for cancellations, major itinerary changes, or seat downgrades. Plus, travelers with lost checked bags will see automatic refunds for their baggage fees. These new standards protect passengers’ time and wallets, setting a new benchmark for accountability in the skies.
Youth Advisory Council Applications Open!
I am excited to announce that applications are open for my Youth Advisory Council through November 15, 2024. This council is open to all current high school students who live in New Jersey’s Sixth Congressional District.
The Youth Advisory Council provides an invaluable forum for me to hear directly from the young people of our district. I strongly believe that young Americans deserve a seat at the table when it comes to shaping our nation’s future. That’s why I launched the council—to engage community-minded, civically engaged students who want to contribute to public service, discuss the issues that matter to them, and share their experiences with me and my team.
