Hi John,

*I just got out of court. During today’s hearing, it was decided that on May 16, 2025, I will go on trial in Sonoma County facing one felony, four misdemeanors, and over five years in prison.* I’m accused of theft for rescuing four chickens, Poppy, Ivy, Aster and Azalea, from Perdue’s Petaluma Poultry slaughterhouse. They were covered in scratches and bruises and infested with Coccidia parasites. At trial, I will tell the jury their stories and be fully transparent about what I did to get them the care they needed.

I was first arrested just under a year ago, at the sentencing hearing of Wayne Hsiung, another animal rescuer, on November 30th of 2023. Since my bail hearing a couple of weeks after my arrest, I have been out of custody under strict pretrial release conditions. For nearly a year, I have been wearing a GPS ankle monitor. I can’t leave the state without court permission and I have to call my pretrial officer every time I leave my county of residence. Most ridiculously, I am prohibited from possessing chickens, ducks, and other fowl because they are afraid I am going to rescue more birds.

All of this has made it clear to me that the prosecutors are angry. They want to make an example out of me to put a stop to animal rescue once and for all. Unfortunately for them, it just isn’t going to work. An ankle monitor and some travel restrictions won’t stop our movement. We are moved to rescue and advocate for animals by something bigger than ourselves. We are moved to rescue animals by our desire to make the world a better and more just place for all living beings.

As this case proceeds, I feel I have a duty to share the stories of the animals abused by Perdue’s Petaluma Poultry with as many people as possible, both inside and outside of the courtroom. In order to do that most effectively, *I need your help. I need you to be there, sitting with me in court and bringing their stories from the courtroom to the world.* We are so much more powerful when we are together.

My trial has been scheduled to start on May 16, 2025 in Santa Rosa, about an hour and a half drive from San Francisco, at the Superior Court of California in Sonoma County (600 Administration Dr, Santa Rosa). It will probably be about two weeks long. DxE will also be organizing rallies, vigils, and community events throughout the trial and on weekends. You can come for any amount of time that you’re able, though if you can only attend one day, we highly encourage you to attend the first day, May 16.

*Please register here.* ( [link removed] ) Let’s show them that we will rise in the face of repression.

Until every animal is free,

Zoe Rosenberg
