This election feels personal to me: When I was growing up in the segregated South, working at a McDonald's to help my family get by, I never thought I'd be the first in my family to graduate from college, become Orlando's first woman chief of police, and become a congresswoman. And I never imagined a moment where I'd be able to help elect a woman like Kamala Harris to the White House.

Watching her make history as the first woman to serve as vice president reminds me of just how far we've come.
