Assessing impacts of sea level rise over the next 75 years: Community meeting Nov. 5 in Manchester

Kitsap County launched a Sea Level Rise Vulnerability and Risk Assessment project [ [link removed] ] last summer and has a public survey [ [link removed] ] underway to gather input on impacts in unincorporated areas. Special community presentations continue this month at the Manchester Community Advisory Council meeting 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 in the Manchester Library, 8067 E. Main Street [ [link removed] ]. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

The vulnerability and risk assessment will identify assets with potential for loss or damage from sea level rise in the next 25 and 75 years such as facilities, homes, businesses, roads, stormwater infrastructure, and natural, cultural and recreational resources. The study includes the development of proposals offering region-specific actions and projects to address increased sea water interactions. The project is expected to be complete by June 30, 2025.

Kitsap County received funding from the Washington Department of Ecology to conduct the study. A story map [ [link removed] ] was created as an interactive tool to keep the community informed of the project's progress and provide detailed information. Visit the project website at kcowa.us/KitsapSLR [ [link removed] ].

MCAC meetings are a great way to stay up to date on what's happening and find out how to get involved to help improve the community.
