As you can imagine, we have been stuck in a lot of traffic. It is an issue we have One thing we noticed on this campaign was the license plates on the construction companies on I-95 and the Merritt tend to be New York. Look at the Groundbreaking last week for I-95 Photo- Tyler Fedor Source Yonkers Contracting is based in New York. As an advocate for you, I reached out to the press - so far, no response from the media. We are glad there are some infrastructure improvements and most of the funds are federal but should we also look to use Connecticut companies and keep more of the money in our state. After all they are federal tax dollars from CT residents as Connecticut only gets back 70 cents of every federal dollar spent. A vote for me is a vote for transparency. We see these trucks everywhere every night along the campaign trail when the roads are being worked on for improvements. The concerns they raise are seeing New York License plates and why these are not Connecticut trucks.
As Climate Change and Health Hazards associated with slow-moving traffic are also major concerns, are the following also included in the calculation:
We have been concerned about the I-95 traffic and the challenges to the Fairfield County corridor and now a project is starting. We saw the Yonkers Contracting banner and also wondered why there are no Connecticut Companies that win these bids. While most of the highway funds are from the Federal Government, it is still Connecticut taxpayer funds as CT has traditionally received only 70 cents back on each federal dollar. As a candidate for Congress in Connecticut and campaigning on improving the Fairfield County corridor, it is not just about improving the roads, but having a lasting impact on the local economies of Fairfield County and surrounding counties that keep federally spent dollars in Connecticut. Some Links we have briefly assembled as this is really investigative reporting: https://www.thehour.com/news/article/i-95-delays-norwalk-westport-ctdot-bridge-replace-18404086.php https://www.thehour.com/news/article/norwalk-i-95-fairfield-avenue-bridge-fire-crash-19525562.php https://www.yonkerscontractingco.com/stamford-parking https://newyork.news12.com/sick-of-backups-on-i-95-new-project-promises-relief https://www.ctinsider.com/projects/2024/news/ct-norwalk-bridge-i95-demolition/ The voters want to know why tax dollars leave for out-of-state contractors when they know there are contractors in the State (not necessarily in the Congressional District) to do the work. We would appreciate your prompt attention to this matter as this is a major concern for our Voters. Traffic, Infrastructure, Climate Change and Health are on the Ballot and the voter should be informed. Connecticut has also some of the highest costs per mile for road repair and construction and our constituents are concerned about inefficient use of taxpayer funds at the state and local level as poor spending hurts each resident in the pocketbook. We are thoroughly concerned about these issues. Sincerely, Dr. Michael T.
