Update on the anti-Zionist resolution and voting process

Good afternoon!

We have an update on last month's proposed and subsequently endorsed resolution, "Resolution: For an Anti-Zionist Chattanooga DSA in both Principle and Praxis".
Click here to read the resolution. ([link removed])

Below is a brief summary of the update, with details explaining the endorsement and voting process after this summary.

Membership endorsed this resolution during the October 2024 General Meeting (minutes here ([link removed]) ). It modify current bylaws by adding requirements to candidacy endorsement and further speficying the existing definition of organizational misalignment for members. As a result of these possible bylaw modifications, the resolution is subject to two subsequent votes in General Meetings as described in Article XII of our Chattanooga DSA bylaws (linked ([link removed]) here ([link removed]) ).

With endorsement established, the resolution will move into the voting process starting with our November 21 general meeting.

This is the summary of the update - Please feel free to read further for more details!
The resolution was endorsed by 6 members within the general meeting followed by 3 members online in the given online endorsement time period. It was formally submitted to Steering Committee on October 21.

These bylaw modifications, described within the resolution, will be brought to a vote:
* As described in the resolution, incorporate anti-Zionist stipulations into any process of candidacy endorsement

* As described in the resolution, further specify the definition of "substantial disagreement" with the organization as it pertains to Palestinian solidarity within DSA membership (see Article III Section 2 of our Chattanooga DSA bylaws ([link removed]) and Article 1 Section 3 of National DSA bylaws ([link removed]) )

Endorsement by membership is not an automatic bylaw modification - instead, the resolution now moves into two rounds of voting. Voting will follow majority decision-making (consensus if possible) per our own bylaws and Robert’s Rules of Order, Newly Revised. Voting is limited to those with official Chattanooga DSA membership -- this is whoever pays dues to DSA (or has a waiver in lieu of dues).
Please reach out with any questions, and keep an eye on email and Slack for continued updates and discussion on this process!

Thank you!
