John,
On Thursday night, Donald Trump once again threatened a political rival with violence, this time escalating the rhetoric by fantasizing about shooting former January 6th committee co-chair Liz Cheney:
“Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her, OK? Let’s see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face.”
We’ll talk about why these alarming comments matter in a moment, but if you want to help COURIER’s mission to stand up to violent right-wing rhetoric, can you chip in $25 now? [[link removed]]
Trump’s calls for violence aren’t new, but as Election Day draws near, his threats are getting more desperate and graphic.
Liz Cheney has campaigned alongside Vice President Harris in recent weeks, arguing that, despite being a Republican herself, she can’t support Trump because of the dangerous threat he poses to our democracy.
On Thursday, Cheney responded to Trump’s violent fantasy by saying, this is how “dictators destroy free nations.”
She’s right. Just days from Election Day, Trump is already priming his supporters to believe the 2024 election will be fraudulent. And, he’s trying to create a climate of fear and violence against his political opponents.
These are the exact same circumstances that led to the attacks on the Capitol on January 6.
Here at COURIER, we are not afraid to stand up for truth and democracy. We will publish our fearless, factual coverage of Trump and his authoritarianism so every voter understands the magnitude of the threat to our nation.
And, we’ll continue that coverage well after Election Day. That means we can do our part to call out another big lie as it takes shape in real time.
But, to do that, we need your help. We rely on supporters like you to fund our newsrooms. Can you chip in $25 now to fund our post-election coverage? [[link removed]]
