Today’s Supreme Court hearing on whether Trump must release his tax returns has Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg experiencing déjà vu.
According to The Guardian, Democrat-appointed judges Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer compared Trump’s refusal to release his records to Richard Nixon’s attempted coverup of the Watergate scandal. Liberal Justices Sotomayor and Kagan also spoke to the historical precedent of Congress using its authority to collect documents from the president in an effort to make sure no leader is above the law.
But conservatives now control the Supreme Court. And it’s no surprise that Justices Kavanaugh and Gorsuch fell in line with the GOP today, with Kavanaugh urging the court to “protect the presidency.” After all, Trump nominated them both, a GOP Senate majority led by Mitch McConnell confirmed them both, and now they both serve lifetime terms.
In other words, their commitment to party over country makes them the exact opposite of RBG. But since Justice Ginsburg is in the minority, we need to know:
