Friend,
Dear Friends,
We’ve all heard about the vile ‘comedy’ routine aimed at Puerto Rico during former president Trump’s Madison Square Garden event.
It was obviously repugnant, but also a window into Trump’s “divide and conquer,” hyper nationalist campaign rhetoric – and its ignorance.
Let's be clear: Puerto Ricans are Americans and its people have played a vital role in our nation since its founding in 1776. As New York is home to more Puerto Ricans anywhere else aside from the island, they are also our neighbors, our friends and our family.
A slur on them is a slur on all of us.
I write about what this means and where we can go in greater detail in an op-ed in the New York Daily News, which you can read here, or below.
With Election Day on Tuesday, we all have to decide which America we want to be - one divided or one united. It is up to us. It's up to you.
As always, thank you for your support and your friendship.
Very Truly Yours,
Governor Andrew Cuomo
