Deer hunting

Online harvest reporting [ [link removed] ] is required for all hunters who successfully take a deer. You can report your deer through the DNR Hunt Fish app or at Michigan.gov/DNRHarvestReport [ [link removed] ].

*Archery deer season: open through Nov. 14 and Dec. 1 – Jan. 1, 2025.* 


* Statewide on public or private lands.  

* Archery deer hunters in the Lower Peninsula have the option to harvest antlerless deer with their deer or deer combo license.
* In the Upper Peninsula, during the archery season, hunters can take an antlerless deer with either a deer or deer combo license, except in deer management units 007, 031, 042, 048, 066, 127 and 131 (antlerless harvest is closed during all seasons) and deer management units 017, 027, 036, 117, 149, 152, 249, 252 and 349, where antlerless harvest with a deer or deer combo license is closed after Dec. 10 in the late archery season.  

*Firearm deer season: Nov. 15-30.  *


* Statewide on public or private lands. 

* Deer hunters in the Lower Peninsula have the option to harvest antlerless deer with their deer or deer combo license.

Small game hunting

* Cottontail rabbit and snowshoe hare: open through March 31, 2025.  

* Fox and gray squirrel (black phase included): open through March 31, 2025. 

* Quail: open through Nov. 14 in select counties.  

* Ruffed grouse: open through Nov. 14 and Dec. 1 – Jan 1.  

* Pheasant (male only):
* Zone 2 and 3: open through Nov. 14. 
* A $25 pheasant license is required for all hunters 18 years old and older to hunt pheasants on any public land in the Lower Peninsula or on lands enrolled in the Hunting Access Program. See the Small Game Hunting Regulations Summary [ [link removed] ] for exceptions.

Pheasant releases

Pheasants are being released on 13 state game/wildlife areas throughout southern Michigan this fall. Releases will take place through Nov. 14 on 13 areas and Dec. 1-31 on 10 areas, coinciding with pheasant hunting season. * Cass City (Tuscola County) – fall and December release. 

* Cornish (Van Buren County) – fall release only. 

* Crane Pond (Cass County) – fall release only. 

* Crow Island (Bay and Saginaw counties) – fall and December release. 

* Dansville (Ingham County) – fall and December release. 

* Erie (Monroe County) – fall and December release. 

* Lapeer (Lapeer County) – fall and December release. 

* Leidy Lake (St. Joseph County) – fall and December release. 

* Townline 16 (Bay County) – fall release only. 

* Pte. Mouillee (Monroe and Wayne counties) – fall and December release. 

* Rose Lake (Clinton and Shiawassee counties) – fall and December release. 

* Stanton (Montcalm County) – fall and December release. 

* St. Johns Marsh (St. Clair County) – fall and December release.

Waterfowl hunting

North Zone 


* Duck seasons: open through Nov. 24 and Nov. 30 – Dec. 1.

* Goose seasons: open through Dec. 16.

Middle Zone 


* Duck seasons: open through Dec. 1 and Dec. 14-15.

* Goose seasons: open through Dec. 20.

South Zone 


* Duck seasons: open through Dec. 8 and Dec. 28-29.

* Goose seasons: open through Dec. 8, Dec. 28 – Jan. 5, 2025, and Feb. 1-10, 2025 (excluding some GMUs). 

* Allegan County GMU: open through Dec. 8, and Dec. 21 – Feb. 15, 2025.  

* Muskegon County GMU: open through Dec. 21.

Hunt at Wetland Wonders

Michigan's Wetland Wonders are the premier managed waterfowl hunt areas in the state. These areas were created to provide exceptional waterfowl hunting opportunities, and are managed to provide waterfowl habitat for nesting and migration and for the benefit of other wetland wildlife. Since the beginning, the areas have been funded by hunting license fees and area use fees, but they are open for anyone to visit, use and enjoy most of the year.

Furbearer hunting and trapping

Hunting seasons:  


* Coyote hunting: open through April 15, 2025. 

* Fox (gray and red) hunting: open through March 1, 2025. 

* Raccoon hunting: open through March 31, 2025.  
* Opossum, skunk and weasel hunting: year-round.

Trapping seasons:  


* Coyote and fox (gray and red) trapping: open through March 1, 2025. 

* Raccoon trapping: open through March 31, 2025.  
* Opossum, skunk and weasel trapping: year-round.

* Badger, beaver, bobcat, muskrat, mink and otter trapping opportunities are available for some areas; see the Fur Harvester Regulations Summary for open units, season dates, and bag limits.

Fall turkey hunting

Fall turkey hunting is open through Nov. 14. 

Check out which hunt units have leftover licenses [ [link removed] ]. Buy your turkey license through the DNR Hunt Fish app [ [link removed] ] to try out the new electronic harvest tags. Licenses purchased online at eLicense [ [link removed] ]or in-store will receive paper tags.

You can buy one fall turkey license a day until quotas are met. Find a place to hunt at a Turkey Tract [ [link removed] ] or other public land at Michigan.gov/Turkey. [ [link removed] ]

Commemorate your hunt with a patch

Michigan’s *wild turkey cooperator patch* program is coordinated by the Michigan chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation [ [link removed] ], in partnership with the DNR. Adult hunters, collectors and other interested individuals may purchase the patch for $7 online [ [link removed] ], including postage and handling. Youth hunters, 17 years old and younger, who have a valid wild turkey hunting license may get a free patch.

2024 Turkey management cooperator patch

2024 Michigan bear management cooperator patch

The Michigan Bear Hunters Association [ [link removed] ], in partnership with the DNR, coordinates Michigan’s *bear cooperator patch* program. Proceeds from patch sales will be used for black bear education and outreach. Adult hunters, patch collectors and others can buy a patch for $7. Youth hunters, 17 years old and younger, who have a valid bear hunting license can get a free patch. Order your patch► [ [link removed] ]
