Dear Reader,
Your readership is more than just clicks to us; it’s a partnership in the relentless pursuit of truth and accountability. Thanks to your support, we have been able to delve deeply into stories with the biggest potential for real-world change and have seen incredible results.
I’ve included a few highlights from our latest impact report and invite you to take a look at the full report to see more examples of change spurred from our work this year:
Exposing Gaps in Reproductive Rights: ProPublica was the first to expose the tragic deaths of Amber Nicole Thurman and Candi Miller, who could not access legal abortions or timely medical care amid Georgia’s abortion ban. Our reporting led Vice President Kamala Harris to address Thurman’s family on a TV special alongside Oprah Winfrey, and galvanized a national conversation on the realities of preventable deaths occurring in post-Roe America.
Championing Educational Equity: Our comprehensive coverage of the crumbling infrastructure in Idaho school districts led lawmakers to approve $2 billion in funding to repair and replace schools over the next decade, citing ProPublica’s photos in the governor’s address to the state. A community that had for decades rejected efforts to approve bonds for a new school also approved a $20 million bond after our stories ran.
Revealing Judicial Misconduct: After our meticulous investigation into Supreme Court ethics and gift disclosures, Justice Clarence Thomas acknowledged that he should have disclosed two free vacations he received from billionaire Harlan Crow. The investigation won the Pulitzer Prize for public service and has ignited a nationwide dialogue on judicial ethics and transparency.
These stories are more than headlines — they are catalysts for change, made possible by your belief in our mission. At ProPublica, we pride ourselves on delivering nonpartisan, deeply researched news that informs and empowers the public. Your readership enables us to continue uncovering the stories that need to be told, no matter whom they upset, fostering a more informed and just society.
Thank you for being an integral part of our work and impact. I look forward to continuing this vital work together and am appreciative of your feedback and support.
With Gratitude,
Robin Sparkman
President
