Baylor Homecoming

Congressman Sessions says Sic 'Em Bears!

Last weekend, I joined in the Baylor University Homecoming festivities. Being the oldest homecoming celebration in the nation, Baylor's traditions are steeped in history and pride, uniting students, alumni, and the broader community in a spectacular show of school spirit. The atmosphere at the game was electric as we cheered the Bears to a homecoming victory against the Oklahoma State Cowboys with a score of 38-28. The weekend was filled with excitement, I am already looking forward to next year’s homecoming!

This Monday marked National First Responders Day, recognizing the heroic men and women who take immediate action when disaster strikes. Our firefighters, paramedics, police officers, and emergency medical technicians play an invaluable role in our communities. Their courage, selflessness, and commitment to service have a significant impact. I am grateful for their tireless efforts in keeping us safe, often putting their own lives on the line. During this last month in TX-17, I was able to visit fire and police stations across the district and share my gratitude in person. Thank you to all our first responders for your dedicated service and for keeping us safe this Halloween!

Resolution Condemning President Biden’s Remarks

Congressman Rose's resolution will be introduced today
Though this last month has been a district work period, legislative business does not stop. After hearing President Biden’s divisive comments about supporters of President Trump, I felt compelled to join Congressman John Rose as an original cosponsor of his resolution condemning these remarks. This resolution sends a clear message that singling out and disparaging Americans based on their political beliefs is unacceptable. We must stand together against rhetoric that divides our nation and instead work to foster unity and respect for all voices. This resolution states that “House of Representatives condemns President Biden’s remarks referring to President Trump’s supporters as ‘garbage’.” Click here to see a news article about the resolution. I am proud to support this resolution as an original cosponsor because I believe it is important that our leaders treat all Americans with respect. I hope that as we move forward in these divisive times, that our discourse will move to fix, and not fight.

The Hill Is uncontrolled immigration the cause of rising crime in the US?
This opinion piece from a contributor to The Hill calls out inconsistencies in immigration and crime data reporting, asking if there is a connection between immigration and rising crime. I also asked this question in a letter to the Government Accountability Office dated December 8, 2023.
