I wish my mother could be here to vote

Ayanna Pressley for Congress

When I was a little girl, my mother Sandy took me to vote in every election. She was a proud Democrat and a super voter.

We'd pull that lever and stand up a little taller, and she would turn to me and say, “Ayanna, never forget that we, the people, are powerful.”

I believed her then, and I still do today.

Voting determines who’s in power. Who’s in power determines the policies. And the policies determine everything — who lives, who dies, who survives, and who thrives. So it goes without saying, we need people in power who will listen to and lead us, not dictate and control us.

That’s why I’m campaigning across this nation, listening to voters, attending worship services, visiting small businesses, hosting roundtables, and talking to students. I’m doing this work for my mother, for my family, and for the generations to come.

This is our last end of month fundraising deadline before Election Day, and the support you send today will determine how many more voters our team can reach. Can I count on you to make a contribution of $25 or more to power this final stretch?

I’ve been encouraged by the number of people I’ve met on the trail who have told me that this is the first time they have donated to a campaign, knocked on doors or phone-banked, or decided to volunteer and get involved.

I’ve been moved by the number of times I’ve heard voters express some version of, “I see my life reflected in Kamala Harris.” Or “She gets us. She represents us.”

I see the enthusiasm, excitement, and momentum from a broad and diverse coalition of people of every walk of life. And people understand that we are the underdogs and that this race is very, very tight. So we have to dig deep and do what is necessary. We have to organize, we have to mobilize, and we have to vote as if lives depend on it, because they do.

I know if my mom was here today, she’d be so excited to cast a ballot for Vice President Harris and Governor Walz.

We are so close to November 5. Your donation today will help us turn out the vote so our voices can be heard.

Onward,

Ayanna
