Today ADL Launches New Center to Combat Surge of Antisemitism in Schools and on College Campuses
There is a rising crisis of antisemitism in our educational spaces. To counter that, the

Ronald Birnbaum Center to Combat Antisemitism in Education at ADL will work to compel educational institutions to meet their legal and moral obligations to ensure safe, welcoming learning environments for all members of their communities, including Jewish students, faculty and staff.
“No student should face hatred at school, but since Oct. 7 the antisemitic vitriol, intimidation and violence in classrooms and on campuses has been unrelenting,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, ADL CEO.
The new Center will unify ADL’s efforts across K-12 and higher education, using tools like partnerships, lobbying, litigation, and consultation to combat antisemitism throughout the educational landscape.

Kudos to 10 Schools that Stepped Up for Students
In the face of the difficult campus climate, ADL is doing all we can to push for improvements. One lever in that effort is our

Campus Antisemitism Report Card, which last spring evaluated 85 schools to help students, parents, alumni and others understand how schools were responding to the antisemitism crisis. Since the Report Card launched, a number of universities have stepped up to overhaul their policies and strengthen their dedication to protecting Jewish members of the campus community.

10 schools that made improvements — Penn, NYU, Michigan State, SUNY Purchase, CUNY Brooklyn College, CUNY Queens College, Barnard, University of Michigan, Wellesley and Colorado-Boulder. Their commitment serves as a model for how to create safer, more inclusive campuses while confronting the growing tide of antisemitism. ADL will release its next edition of the Report Card in Spring 2025.

ADL’s Election Misinformation Debunk: False and misleading narratives about the upcoming U.S. presidential election are spreading widely among extremists and purveyors of hate and conspiracy theories. While some of these have been spread before, others are inspired by current events. Our ADL Center on Extremism debunks false narratives including that Jews, Zionists and Israel control the election results or that immigrants are helping to steal the election. We also explain the impact of tools like online foreign influence campaigns and Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) content.

The UN’s Francesca Albanese in Her Own Words: Francesca Albanese, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, has long coopted antisemitic tropes and legitimized support of terrorism in her critiques of Israel, using her platform to spread intense anti-Israel rhetoric. From the start Francesca Albanese’s bias and lack of impartiality towards Israel has been obvious. She has a long record of promoting antisemitic tropes and using hateful language to attack the Jewish State of Israel, which includes comparing Israel to the Nazis, conspiracies about Jewish power, denying and diminishing the Oct 7th massacre, and supporting and advocating violence
against the Jewish state.

EVENT: Conversation with a Holocaust Survivor: Join us on Nov. 7 for “Kristallnacht, Kindertransport and Return to Life: A Conversation with Holocaust Survivor Renate Zelovic” as we mark the 86th anniversary of Kristallnacht. This will be a powerful event, geared for students, educators and parents. Stand Together — a gathering of unity, strength and resilience. We will unite to stand with Israel, call for the hostages’ release, and rally against antisemitism. We’ll also express gratitude to America, the U.S. military and our civic partners and allies. ADL is proud to join the Jewish Federations of North America and the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations for this event, offering a chance to honor heroes, bridge divides and strengthen Jewish unity. Taking place shortly after the elections, this is a chance to heal partisan divisions and chart a course for the future.

New UK School Tools: As cases of antisemitism soar in the UK, ADL and the Board of Deputies of British Jews have launched a new free digital resource to teach secondary school students about Jews, Judaism and antisemitism. Jewish Living Online (JLO) is a comprehensive, authentic and engaging resource for students aged 11 and over. It provides information via multimedia content (including real British Jewish voices), discussion, and critical thinking questions and assessment tools. As ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt notes: “This initiative marks the first of many similar programs we plan to implement globally, aimed at educating and empowering the next generation."

Tell Your State’s Department of Education to Combat Antisemitism in Schools. After the horrific Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, one truth is undeniable: an antisemitism crisis is hitting our schools and college campuses. ADL is urging your state’s Department of Education to take swift, meaningful action to halt this dangerous wave of hate by forcefully condemning antisemitism, educating every student and teacher on its dangers and Holocaust history, creating open channels for reporting incidents with transparent follow-up, and bolstering school security to protect all students.

We’re continuing to monitor this incident in which incendiary devices marked with “Free Gaza” and “Free Palestine” exploded and damaged ballot boxes in Portland and Vancouver. As we await more details, we condemn this attempt to sow fear and disrupt the electoral process.

An ad promoting author @BHL’s new book “Israel Alone” was rejected from being featured in @shelfawareness because the book, which is still set for release, has the word “Israel” in the title. Censoring Jewish voices because of Israel is never acceptable.
