When I was growing up right here in Upstate South Carolina, I never thought I would run for office. Even for most of my adult life, I didn't think that I would ever seek an elected position.
Then, Republicans came after my family's healthcare. My husband has a pre-existing medical condition, and after the 2016 election, the Affordable Care Act was under attack. I was scared, but I was motivated. And today, I'm the Democratic nominee running to unseat Republican William Timmons right here in my home District.
Here's the thing - William Timmons comes from one of the wealthiest families in Greenville, and he has already poured millions of dollars into his campaigns. I don't have any personal wealth to fall back on, and that is why I'm reaching out today.
