Democracy is on the ballot next Tuesday.

Happy Halloween, John!

I’m spooked — and not just because today is Halloween.

Democracy is on the ballot on November 5, and the vision that Donald Trump and his Republican allies have laid out for our country in their Project 2025 nightmare is truly frightening.

Mass deportations. Eliminating HeadStart. Gutting abortion access. Expanding warrantless surveillance. Using federal law enforcement to target journalists and protestors.

John, that’s about as scary as it gets. How do we ward off these evil spirits?

Last night, as I wrote to you about Election Day anxieties and honoring my friend Ady Barkan as we approach one year since his death, I was reminded of his call to “collective courage,” to take action together to stave off the gravest fears.

This is a time for collective courage.

So I’m asking: Will you rush a contribution to any of the campaigns or organizations below to power them through this final week? Each of these candidates or organizations is fighting for the progress our city, state, and country need and deserve.

KAMALA HARRIS FOR PRESIDENT
CHRIS MCCREIGHT (NY AD-46)
IWEN CHU (NY SD-17)
SUE ALTMAN (NJ-07)
PAT RYAN (NY-18)
BATTLEGROUND NEW YORK
NEW YORKERS DEFENDING DEMOCRACY

Always a long-term thinker, Ady knew that we would not be able to beat back the monsters with one election. He’d be spinning up plans for building collective power to push Kamala to do more if she wins. And, God forbid, if Trump wins, Ady would be thinking of the strategic coalitions we’d need to build to protect vulnerable communities with something more powerful than garlic.

But during these crucial final five days, he would undoubtedly urge us to dig deep and fight hard. He’d want us to do everything we can to prevent a second Trump presidency.

If you want to do even a little bit more – Be A Hero (the organization Ady created) is teaming up with the Working Families Party for a Healthcare Justice Phonebank for Kamala Harris in Ady’s honor tomorrow at 6:00 PM. I’ll be there, and I hope you will too.

We have five days left. Let’s make them count.

In solidarity,

Brad

P.S. For my costume this year, as you can see above, I’m still a “controller.” But as you may have heard, I’ve decided on a (Nintendo) Switch ;-)
