His legislation -- the Prevent Emergency and Disaster Profiteering Act -- would set thresholds on how much companies and individuals would be allowed to increase prices once a disaster strikes.

There is currently no federal law banning the practice of profiteering in a crisis, so Cory's legislation will protect consumers in states without anti-price gouging laws on the books.
