Do you know what’s really scary this Halloween, John? The Dirty
Deal is back from the dead!
[1]The dirty deal is back from the dead! [illustration of ghosts and a
hand coming out of a grave]
The Dirty Deal is Sen. Joe Manchin’s bill to fast-track fossil fuel
projects — and he just reintroduced it in Congress in a last-ditch attempt
to get it passed before he leaves office in January. We’ve shut down this
bad bill before, but, like in a bad zombie movie, it just won’t die.
The Dirty Deal would protect Big Oil’s profits at the expense of frontline
communities in the Gulf and the Arctic that are already being
disproportionately devastated by the climate crisis by making it easier
for Big Oil to build oil and gas projects while shutting out input from
the people that would be affected.
It’s a dangerous giveaway to the fossil fuel industry, and passing it
would be one last treat for Manchin’s Big Oil donors.
The climate justice movement has stopped the Dirty Deal twice before, and
we can do it again. If enough of us raise our voices, we can convince our
senators to kill the bill for good. We’ve already delivered more than
4,400 petitions demanding the Senate block this bill, but we need more
people to join to make as big an impact as possible.
