Terri Sewell is the proud product of Alabama’s rural Black Belt and has spent her life fighting for Alabama communities. From her time as one of the only black public finance lawyers in Alabama, when she delivered financing for new campus facilities at Alabama State University, Tuskegee University, and Stillman College, to her work as Congresswoman for Alabama’s 7th District, Terri Sewell has delivered results every step of the way. Hi folks,
We in Alabama have always been on the front lines in the fight for voting rights. It was our foremothers and forefathers who bravely took on the injustices of Jim Crow segregation and stood up against efforts to silence our voices and our votes. Led by heroes like John Lewis, Amelia Boynton, Dr. King, and many others, the Foot Soldiers of the Civil Rights Movement were ordinary Americans—but their sacrifices brought about extraordinary social change when the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was finally passed and signed into law.
Before I go on, we’re counting on you to help us get folks out to vote ahead of next week’s election. Can you please chip in anything you can today to help support our GOTV efforts?

Today, the struggle for voting rights continues — while we no longer face poll taxes and literacy tests, efforts by extremists to silence our voices and dilute our power are alive and well. Look no further than Alabama — from the ridiculous restrictions on absentee voting to last year’s redistricting fiasco: when a panel of three federal judges had to force state officials to provide fairer representation to Black voters.
The brave Americans who fought, bled, and died for our right to vote are heroes. The best way to honor their legacy is by exercising that right at the ballot box. I hope you will make a plan to vote on Election Day and make your voice heard!
Thank you,
Terri Sewell
