All of us are well aware of the sacrifice and bravery of our healthcare workers. Nurses, doctors, and other medical workers are risking their lives by going into work to care for the ill and contain the COVID-19 crisis. Many are working back-to-back shifts and are understandably physically and emotionally exhausted.

But still, they persevere. And in return for the blood, sweat, and tears they put into their work, the least we could do is protect them during these difficult times.

The shortage of personal protective equipment that many healthcare workers are facing right now is unacceptable. Nurses, doctors, and other essential healthcare workers are too often going without or reusing critical PPE that could help save their lives while they care for highly contagious patients. But, according to the national nonprofit Project N95, Virginia alone is lacking over 2 million units of critical equipment -- including masks, gowns, respirators, face shields, and more.



President Trump has the ability to end this shortage once and for all by invoking the Defense Production Act and requiring companies to start producing more PPE. I'm demanding Trump do exactly this, immediately, in order to protect our frontline healthcare workers. Will you join me by signing on to my petition now?
