Hi Friend,
Our fourth Planners of Color Happy Hour is coming up on Wednesday, November 13, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Shanklin Hall in Adams Morgan, and we’d love to see you there! Despite the event name, you do not have to be a planner to attend. We welcome advocates, community leaders, students, and anyone who is interested in connecting with other like-minded folks to advance a more inclusive Washington region.
Since we launched the Planners of Color Happy Hours in November 2023, they’ve quickly become one of my favorite GGWash events. I think it has something to do with what my colleague Dan Reed calls “GGWash’s ‘special sauce’”— our community’s civically engaged, solutions-oriented characteristics — coupled with the sense of camaraderie and joy that comes from connecting with other people of color in a field historically exclusive of us.
Whether it’s your first GGWash event or your 100th, I hope to see you there!

Also, don't forget that our discussion with Jerusalem Demsas is the day before on November 12 at People's Book in Takoma Park. In her new book, On the Housing Crisis: Land, Development, Democracy , Jerusalem Demsas, staff writer for the Atlantic, breaks down in plain language how the democratic process has been hijacked to throw up barriers to homebuilding.
