Dear John,

Alliances are made like this

A whole menu of options - it's not just coalition

The Pro-EU Alliance of parties is needed if we're going to stop Boris Johnson and Nigel Farage. But it doesn't need to be a full-on coalition agreement.

In fact, there are so many ways it can work. And it can look different in different areas. Alliances will be decided by local campaigners place by place.

Electoral pact

Just like in Brecon & Radnorshire, the parties agree to rally around just one candidate. This can be agreed as a 'local cluster', or can be applied across a region, or even nationally.

Non-aggression pact

The parties all field candidates, but only one is fighting - and spending money - for victory. Voters are told which is the 'serious' candidate.

Tactical voting

If parties don’t manage to negotiate a formal pact, individual candidates can sign a pledge - for instance promising to back Remain in a final say referendum - to inform a tactical vote

Those are just three of the ways the Alliance can work. And it is already working - people across the country are making a start.

Read our Guide and see how you can get involved.

Best wishes,
