This Halloween, New Yorkers may encounter a very spooky trick. Unlike most of Halloween, this isn't a friendly neighbor dressing up as something scary but is a dangerous form of energy trying to dress up as something good.

That's right: it's a lobbyist-approved plan for nuclear power in New York, a dangerous and wasteful form of energy going around pretending to be a "clean energy climate solution"!
Don't let the disguise fool you. To switch to a nuclear plan now would only result in boondoggles, higher bills, and environmental damage when we should instead continue committing to safer, easier to scale, and quicker-to-build renewables like wind and solar.
Just look behind the mask. In Georgia, the much heralded Vogtle nuclear plant is officially the most expensive power plant ever at $36 billion dollars, and it even bankrupted its main contractor in 2017. Meanwhile, wind and solar become cheaper and cheaper. Between the false solution "trick" and the real solution "treat," the choice for New York is easy.
