Greetings!
We hope you had a great month! Throughout October, we have remained focused on our work listening to the needs of our local military community and making sure veterans have access to the benefits they earned. As Veterans Day nears, we are grateful for the continued chance to honor their service to our country in our work in Congress.
As always, we hope you find the following updates and resources helpful!
Honoring Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day
At the end of September, we honored the mothers, fathers, and families of fallen military servicemembers on Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day. It is critical that we always show these brave families our appreciation and recognize their service on behalf of our nation.
Happy Birthday Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst
We are committed to addressing the needs of the men and women serving in uniform at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and across the world. This month, we were excited to help celebrate 15 years since the Joint Base became the nation’s only tri-service installation!
From advocating to make the Joint Base more resilient to natural disasters, passing legislation so drinking water is free of toxic chemicals, and supporting projects like an overpass over Route 539 and improving road safety, we will continue to support the tens of thousands of servicemembers and families who live and work there, as they selflessly serve to protect our nation. As Ranking Member of the House Armed Services’ Military Personnel Subcommittee, Congressman Kim is focused on making sure our military community is looked after, from comprehensive healthcare to affordable childcare.
Joining the First Annual State of the Base
This October, our office was happy to be able to join the Burlington County Regional Chamber of Commerce for their first “State of the Base” at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. It was terrific to see the business community and Joint Base come together to better understand and discuss shared priorities. The Joint Base has an annual economic impact of $7 billion in our region, and we’ve been working to even further unlock the economic potential of the base through continued federal investments and the opportunities it creates for local businesses. We look forward to seeing our progress and continued investments make the Joint Base an economic engine for our local economy while fulfilling our national security responsibilities.
Honoring Veterans Service
This month, the Department of Defense announced that over 800 veterans will receive honorable discharges after unjustly being kicked out of the military for their sexual orientation. They deserve these benefits. We applaud this incredible progress to right the wrongs of “don’t Ask, don’t Tell,” stand by our LGBTQ+ servicemembers, and justly honor their service to our nation.
Happy Birthday to the United States Navy!
On October 13th, we joined in wishing the U.S. Navy a very happy birthday and celebrated the bravery of all our sailors and military personnel over their 249 years of service to our nation.
Medicare Open Enrollment is OPEN
From now through December 7th, you can head to medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE to look over coverage and compare options to make sure you have a plan that’s right for you.
Through the Inflation Reduction Act, Congressman Kim is proud to have helped cap insulin costs at $35/month for seniors on Medicare and deliver critical savings on their prescription drug costs.
