Community members and trail partners joined us for the opening celebration of the 572-foot-long weathered steel bridge, connecting completed segments of the Foothills Trail on both sides of the river. Funded primarily by the King County Parks Levy, the bridge closes the gap of a 22-mile trail connecting 280,000 residents across King and Pierce counties with easy access to schools, business districts, and views of Mount Rainier along the Carbon River.

Salmon recovery partners release record-high 12,000 young kokanee in Lake Sammamish watershed
A photo collage of photos of the traditional ceremony and kokanee release.
A partnership led by King County released the first of 12,000 young kokanee salmon near the middle of Lake Sammamish, the latest milestone for an ongoing effort to ensure the survival of an iconic freshwater species.
King County Deputy Executive Shannon Braddock led the lakeside celebration, joined by Snoqualmie Indian Tribe Chair Robert de los Angeles and other partners. Scientists believe the record-high number of fry is the result of keeping young salmon in a controlled setting for an extended period, releasing them during the fall when the fish are larger, lake water temperatures are cooler, and oxygen levels are higher
Thanks to the ingenuity of our employees and partners, a salmon species that is important to our habitat and history is one step closer to recovery.
