Husted Announces Teacher Bootcamp Program Application Period
(COLUMBUS, Ohio)—Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted today announced that the application period for Ohio's Teacher Bootcamp Program will open tomorrow, November 1st, for institutions of higher education. Teacher bootcamps bring educators into local businesses to help expose them to the in-demand career skillsets their communities need so they can better prepare students to be career ready upon graduation.
“Teacher bootcamps have proven to be very popular, as they allow teachers to learn about businesses and job opportunities available in their communities,” said Lt. Governor Husted. “After completing the bootcamp, teachers are better prepared to advise their students on the types of courses and skills they will need to be ready for work in the communities where they grew up.”
Institutions of higher education are eligible to apply to administer the bootcamps. Once awarded, they can enroll teachers into their bootcamp, and when the teachers complete the courses, the institution will be reimbursed for tuition costs. Qualifying coursework is to be delivered in bootcamp format and must include graduate credit coursework.
The goal of the program is to incentivize teacher professional development while exposing teachers to career opportunities for their students in critical sectors like Advanced Manufacturing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Broadband & 5G, Cybersecurity, Healthcare, Transportation, or more. A total of $500,000 is available through this program.
“Ohio’s economic success depends on a skilled workforce, and teachers play a pivotal role in helping students explore future options,” Department of Higher Education Chancellor Mike Duffey said. “This program provides teachers with hands-on experience with Ohio’s in-demand careers, so teachers can share these firsthand experiences with their students.”
The application period for the Teacher Bootcamp Program opens tomorrow, November 1, and will close November 29, 2024 at 3:00 p.m.
