Dear John,
The outcome of November’s election will have serious implications for the capacity of the government to carry out its core functions and adequately serve the American people. From the Supreme Court’s ruling hobbling departments’ and agencies’ expertise in Loper Bright to Project 2025’s plan to dismantle the civil service, the ability of the state to deliver on public needs is under constant threat. Within a week after election day, we should know whether we will be able to continue the work of rebuilding the state’s capacity to advance equity and respond to people’s economic needs—or if civil servants will have to work hard to protect the core functions of democratic governance from all-out assault.

Please join the Roosevelt Institute for an in-depth conversation on the outlook for government capacity in 2025 on Tuesday, November 12. We will be joined by K.
