**October Outlook
Happy Halloween, John!
This October has been thrilling! Our Alliance Network has been more than just a little spooky this season, bringing treats—and no tricks—to voter outreach. Across the country, Affiliates have been out in full force, knocking on doors, making calls, and connecting with young voters to make sure every eligible voice is heard this election season.
Our Alliance team is joining the Trick or Vote fun, supporting Affiliates in Arizona, Nevada, North Carolina, and Wisconsin right through Election Day, boosting our network’s outreach and amplifying our impact.
Before we dive in, don’t forget: early voting is open in every state where it’s available! Avoid the fright of long Election Day lines and cast your ballot early!
**Network GOTV Highlights
GOTV work is never easy, but it’s extremely essential. Whether braving chilly winter afternoons or long summer days, dedicated organizers throughout the Network have been out in their communities, making sure that people are registered and ready to vote this year. That’s why we’re thrilled and proud to announce a significant milestone: the Alliance Network has officially surpassed our yearly voter registration goal and registered over 85,000 new voters! So far, they’ve knocked on over 1.25 million doors, made over 3 million phone call attempts, and collected nearly 300,000 pledges to vote. Together, we’re making sure every voice is heard this election cycle!
*Highlights
- Leaders Igniting Transformation (LIT) has knocked on 770,065 doors this year.
- Forward Montana has made 247,363 dials.
- Engage Miami distributed 300,000 c4 voter guides to young people, educating them about what’s on their ballots, including Amendment 4, which would restore abortion access. They also partnered with BallotReady to launch an online voter guide. [link removed].
**Briefing Recap: What National Polls are Getting Wrong (and Right) About Young Adults and the 2024 Election
On October 17, the Alliance hosted an insightful press briefing featuring our VP of Capacity Building, Rudy Garrett, alongside renowned political strategists Simon Rosenberg and Tom Bonier. The discussion focused on the flaws in current national polling and their often misrepresentation of the 2024 electoral landscape, offering insights into youth voting behavior as Election Day approaches
The Key Takeaways:
1. Polling Challenges with Youth: Polling young voters tends to be difficult due to high margins of error and variability in how youth engage with political information. Large-sample polls like Harvard IOP are crucial to understanding this bloc.
2. Youth Turnout on Election Day: Early data shows that young voters are more inclined to vote on Election Day, meaning that targeted outreach is essential for campaign success.
3. Importance of Outreach to Young Men of Color: Issues like entrepreneurship and the economy resonate with young men of color. Youth organizations must intentionally engage with this demographic, especially considering efforts to sway them through culture war messaging.
4. Post-Dobbs Surge in Voter Registration: Voter registration, especially among young women of color, increased significantly after the Dobbs decision, indicating heightened political engagement.
5. Uplifting Young Women’s Political Impact: Beyond strong voter registration, young women are emerging as a pivotal demographic thanks to their consistent and growing political engagement. Yet, their influence remains largely underappreciated and underrepresented in public discourse and media.
These insights highlight the importance of ongoing investment in young people, enabling us to better understand their evolving engagement and shifting priorities. In doing so, we can more effectively align our efforts to meet their needs and ensure their voices are heard in shaping the future.
**Alliance in the Field
In the lead-up to elections, Alliance team members join network organizations across the country to directly support their GOTV efforts.
*Phoenix, Arizona: AZ Poder
In Arizona, our partners at Poder have knocked on 250,000 doors to educate their community about key issues and get out the vote! Statewide, they're advocating for Prop 139 (Right to Abortion Initiative) and against Prop 314 (Immigration and Border Law Enforcement Measure). Locally, they're backing Anna Hernandez for city council. Anna is advocating for stronger public health services and pushing for greater police oversight on behalf of the people of Phoenix. The Alliance's Development team's week with Poder was incredibly inspiring. Poder's team of canvassers, a mix of staff and volunteers, work tirelessly and compassionately, in both English and Spanish, to connect with their communities. For many young canvassers, this experience is their introduction to political action, demonstrating Poder's dedication to building community and empowering young voices to be civically engaged.
*Las Vegas, Nevada: One APIA Nevada
In Nevada, our partners at One APIA Nevada (OAN) have knocked on 192,185 doors and distributed 83,118 voter guides across Las Vegas and Reno. They have also endorsed candidates throughout the ballot, including Jacky Rosen for Senate and Susie Lee for Congress, who back clean energy jobs, lower insulin costs, and small business funding. OAN is also working to support Question 6, a constitutional amendment that would codify abortion access across the state. For a week, the Alliance’s Capacity Building team joined One APIA Nevada, in their grassroots canvassing program - one of the largest voter engagement efforts in our Network! Together, they connected with voters at their doors, ensuring every voice has the chance to be heard. OAN’s program targets AAPI and allied communities. The program has over 100 canvassers who each complete 25 daily door shifts averaging 1,000 knocks per day!
