The new strategy aims to reduce child marriage rates by 20%, focusing on initiatives that keep girls in school, transform harmful social norms, and strengthen legal protections against child marriage.

United States: New Federal Law Aims to Accelerate Action to End Child Marriage

Child marriage is a significant problem in the United States. New ground-breaking federal legislation, The Child Marriage Prevention Act of 2024, aims to close protection gaps in federal law and send a strong message to U.S. states to end child marriage across the country. 

Ten years ago, she left her career in banking to work with the Samburu Girls Foundation, driven by the inspiring stories of young girls. Today, as Executive Director, she’s seen girls she once met grow into engineers, nurses, and community leaders. Wanjiru believes the time for change is now—to end child marriage and give girls everywhere the chance to succeed.

Through her work, she’s helping end the cycle of child marriage and transforming the futures of young girls. Hope reminds us: "Girls move the world.
