Dan Osborn, the Independent populist (and steamfitter) running for Senate in Nebraska has a few things he wants folks to know. He just emailed supporters, saying:
"I've gotten a lot of eye rolls when I say the word Nebraska and tell people that I’m running against a Republican. A lot of people don’t think we can win against a two-term incumbent who has an (R) next to her name. But give me the chance to explain why they’re wrong.
"The people of Nebraska are ready for change. Every poll shows me NECK-AND-NECK with my opponent Republican Deb Fischer – and according to FiveThirtyEight, this is now the CLOSEST Senate race in the entire country! Seriously."
Osborn isn't rich. And he is so far from coming from a political dynasty, he actually says:
"I’ve got no business running for the U.S. Senate – and that’s exactly why I am.
"I am a proud card-carrying steamfitter and mechanic. I was president of my local union before I got fired for leading a strike that saved 500 middle-class jobs in Nebraska. I served in the United States Navy and joined the National Guard to help pay for college before I had to drop out so I could keep food on the table for my family.
"There’s nobody like me in the Senate. But with your help, I believe we can win and finally elect a senator whose collars are blue. And all of the polls prove it."
When an actual working class guy dares to run for the U.S. Senate, he's going to face some challenges. Dan Osborn is telling it like it is:
"I don’t have Mitch McConnell's Super PACs spending over $13.1 MILLION like my opponent does, and I'm not taking money from corporate PACs. If I’m going to defeat Republican Deb Fischer and win this Senate race, I am counting on grassroots donors like you to believe in me and make a donation right now to my campaign.
"I believe we can protect our democracy, stop these ridiculous abortion bans, and put an end to the corruption in Washington. But I need your help to do it. Your support would mean the world to me."
