John,
AIPAC, self-described as “America’s pro-Israel lobby,” has paid for hundreds of trips to Israel for members of Congress over the last decade in order to influence U.S. foreign policy.
A new study highlighted by Politico shows that “Israel is far and away the No. 1 destination for privately sponsored foreign travel by members of the House and their aides,” largely thanks to AIPAC.
In 2024 so far, AIPAC paid for eight trips by 71 House members and staffers from March through early September; in total, the right-wing megadonor-funded group covered about 75% of all congressional trips to Israel.
U.S. leaders have taken more trips to Israel than to the entire Western Hemisphere and the continent of Africa combined.
These trips are designed to give U.S. lawmakers a one-sided view of the conflict between Israel and Palestine and influence foreign policy decisions like additional funding for Israel’s military.
This is yet another way that AIPAC exerts its power and influence over our political system, maintaining billions of dollars in weapons and bombs from the U.S. despite the majority of voters’ desire for an arms embargo and ceasefire in Gaza.
In solidarity,
