John,
Yesterday, Mitch McConnell said that he and Senate Republicans have “yet to feel the urgency of acting immediately” to address the public health and economic crisis at hand.
Lives are being lost. Families are hurting. Small businesses are suffering. Moms and dads all over the country are worried about what’s to come.
We are in the middle of an unprecedented pandemic. A sense of urgency is exactly what we need!
Thankfully, Democrats are working to prioritize public health and getting resources where they are urgently needed, but this should not be a partisan issue.
Here are just a few things that we know are needed:
- Much-needed funding for our state and local governments on the front lines of this crisis
- More assistance for the small businesses that drive our local and regional economies
- Funding for a comprehensive, national testing strategy
- Aid for the U.S. Postal Service which is more important than ever, especially for seniors, veterans, rural communities and those living with disabilities
- Enhanced food assistance so that families can put food on their tables
- Strong measures to ensure there is increased oversight of these crucial funds
This is just a start, but smart measures like these will put public safety first, help millions of Americans who are in dire straits right now through no fault of their own and get our country on better economic footing in the long run.
I want to hear from you. What would you like to see included in the next coronavirus package? Leave your answer here >>
And can I ask a favor? I would like to hear input from as many people as possible, so can you forward this message to five people and ask them to share their thoughts, too?
We need to keep our eye on the ball and focus on the crisis at hand. Despite what Mitch McConnell says, I know we need to act with a sense of urgency. Millions of Americans are depending on us.
Look forward to hearing from you,
Tom
